This website was developed by Mary MacLean, R.N., M.S.N. to inform and educate parents, caregivers and medical professionals about the recurring, intense feelings of grief known as chronic sorrow.

Mary MacLean is the mother of two grown children and has over 25 years of both inpatient and outpatient pediatric nursing. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hartwick College and a Master of Science in Nursing from Wright State University.

Most importantly, over the last 15 years, Mary has experienced the challenges of being the parent of a child with a chronic condition. As part of her graduate studies, Mary was introduced to the concept of chronic sorrow. As both parent and pediatric nurse, Mary knows the importance for parents to learn strategies that will help them through the challenges and joys of being a caregiver.

It is Mary’s hope that this site will provide support, information and strategies that help parents and caregivers to persevere during the ups and downs that characterize chronic sorrow.
